NUC Latest Ranking: Top 100 Universities In Nigeria 2019

The NUC latest Nigeria University Ranking for 2019 is out with University of Ibadan (UI) still topping the list as best university in Nigeria. The Ranking was obtained from the January 2019 Webometrics World University Ranking results.

The Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) is a rank of world universities web presence. And below is the updated top 100 best universities in Nigeria from the 2019 edition of the webometrics results.

Recently, there have been an increase in the number of universities in Nigeria but a decline in the quality and standard of education.

University of Ibadan

This school ranks as first on the list, beating the likes of UNILAG as the best federal tertiary academic institution in the country. The university of Ibadan has been the preferred choice for students who want to pursue various programmes and degrees in various courses of study.

Covenant University

Covenant university is the best private university and ranks 2nd on NUC list of top universities in Nigeria. Founded by Bishop David Oyedepo, the school is known for churning brilliant minds into the society and has state of the art facilities that makes learning easy.

The only pitfall associated with this school is that it is one of the most expensive universities in the country. The school fees of Covenant university is on the high, making it difficult for students who chose this academic institution as their preferred school of study honor their admission to this school.

University of Nigeria (UNN)

UNN is ranked as the 3rd best university in the country this 2019. This federal university was founded in 1955 and is located in Nsukka, Enugu State.

Also, it is the first autonomous university in Nigeria linked with the British system of education. The aim of the school is to develop students through careful lecturing, research and development, knowledge transfer and human resource development.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)

Obafemi Awolowo University is another top university that has been ranked among the best academic institutions in Africa. OAU is located in Osun state and it is one of the most sought after schools in the southwest region of the country.

Accredited by the NUC, this school has various faculties and departments for various courses which has been dully listed by JAMB for Nigerian students. Also, they also offer degree programmes, masters programmes and also pre-degree and Ph.D.

University of Lagos (UNILAG)

UNILAG is by far the most equipped university in Nigeria. Founded in 1962, this federal school has always provided quality and objective education Nigerian students.

The University has produced many graduates who in one way or the other has had major impact in the growth and development of the country. Gaining admission into UNILAG might be kind of difficult due to the prestige of the school. In terms of academics, UNILAG is one of the best in the country.

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria

University of Ilorin

University of Benin

The University of Benin was established in 1970 as a school to reduce illiteracy in the country. It first began as an Institute of Technology before attaining to University status by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 1971.

    It is unbelievable, Gombe State university is not among the Hundred listed here. With all due respect to Bukar Abba University, how can Yobe state university be rank above Gombe state university. Unbelievable.

    The big problem is, how do these ranking bodies determine the top universities?
    What are their judgement paramenters?
    I know very well that most of the ranking bodies do not visit all the universities in Nigeria to have first hand information about structures and academic processes, how do they arrive at these lists every year?
