This section is for those not familiar with the Gokada app. Gokada was founded in 2017 by Nigerian entrepreneurs. The service was launched originally and started operations in Yaba Axis of Lagos state and has extended their operations to Victoria Island – Lekki Axis Lagos, Nigeria.
The company uses bikes with engine capacities of 200 cc and above meeting government standards for load-bearing on major Lagos roads. The service requires a Gokada mobile app which riders must download to their iOS or Android -based phone, sign up, enter a valid phone number, enter pick up location and request ride.
Riders can then request a ride from a nearby driver. Once confirmed, the app shows the verified driver’s name, photo and bike details, after which the driver will call to confirm the request and destination. Before confirming your order, you will see an estimated cost of the service which might change. Upon arrival, the driver will give you a hair net and helmet.
You’re expected to wear the hair net for hygienic sake before putting on the helmet which are DOT (US Department of Transportation approved) certified, able to withstand forces typical during a motorcycle accident. After putting it on, you climb the bike and the driver takes off. Upon reaching your destination, you alight the bike pay the bike man in cash (yes, they currently accept only cash as the means of payment).
The amount to be paid is usually displayed on the app and the driver will show you. After the payment, you can now rate the driver on the app based on the service delivered.
If by any means, you have a reason to report the driver for misconduct, launch the app and tap the “Support” button then click the “Message Us” button at the bottom of the page.
Conclusively, it’s important we note here that Gokada had solve it own quarter of the traffic problem. With it, you move at least two (2) times faster in traffic congested areas. You also don’t need to come out before hailing their bikes. These and many more had set them aside from the regular Okada drivers in Lagos.
