The Least Paid Presidents In The World
This post seeks to take you on a journey to find out who the least paid Presidents in the world are.
While we exposed who the poorest president in Africa is, it is no secret that so many world leaders earn thousands, even several millions of dollars annually, there are some that earn modest salaries when compared to that of their counterparts worldwide.
Note that the highest paid world leader is the prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsein Long who pockets an estimated $1.86 million yearly.
Below are the least paid Presidents in the world currently:
1. José Mujica, Former President of Uruguay, Annual Salary: $15,000
José Mujica is the only former president on this list. He was President of Uruguay and actually earned $144,000 annually but he only took 10 per cent of his annual salary which is $15,000 and donated 90 per cent to charities.
He also abandoned his official residence and lived on his wife’s modest flower farm house and drove a 1987 Volkswagen Beetle instead of his official Presidential car. What most presidents in Africa will never do.
2. Macky Sall, President of Senegal. Annual Salary: $15,600.
The President of Senegal goes home monthly with $1,300 and yearly with $15,600. This is even higher than that of two of his predecessors and he isn’t complaining. Not bad when compared to the current salary structure of the Nigerian President.
3. Beji Caid Essebsi, President of Tunisia. Annual Salary: $16,400
Bedi Caid Essebsi goes home monthly with a salary of $1,350 and a yearly salary of $16,400. Not all Presidents and world leaders can do that.
4. Xi Jinping, President of China. Annual Salary: $22,300
Xi Jinping is the President of the world’s most populous country, People’s Republic of China, yet he earns $22,300 annually. This further tells that monthly, he earns $1,854, very low for the President of one of the biggest economies in the world.
5. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India. Annual Salary: $28,000
Last but not the least on our list of presidents that earn low salaries is Pranab Mukherjee, President of India who goes home monthly with a salary of $2,400 and yearly with $28,000. This is peanuts compared to that of many world leaders like the American President. He is well taken care of in Rashtrapathi Bhavan, a massive structure which has 340 rooms.
