Biography of Bridgette Radebe: Richest Black Woman in South Africa Currently

This is the biography of Bridgette Radebe, one of the most powerful people in South Africa. She is an authority in South Africa’s mining industry and as such, this has made her become one of the richest women in South Africa. She is currently the richest black woman in that country.


Bridgette Radebe, is a South African businesswoman and the older sister of South African businessman Patrice Motsepe.
Radebe was the first black South African deep level hard rock mining entrepreneur in the 1980s.

Radebe has more than a decade of experience in contract mining, mining construction and mining mergers and acquisitions.

Radebe is the Founder of Mmakau Mining, which has investments in platinum, coal, chrome and gold mines.

Radebe participated in the design of the South African Mining Charter and present mining legislation.

Radebe is the Executive Chairperson of Mmakau Mining, an Independent Non-Executive Director of Sappi Limited, President of the South African Mining Development Association and New Africa Mining Fund Founder and Board Trustee.


Radebe hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Botswana.

Radebe has won the 2008 International Business Person of the Year, is listed for the 2012 Forbes Africa’s Most Richest Women.

In addition, Radebe has the won the South African Ministry of Minerals and Energy Pioneer in Mining Award, the Mababongwe Renaissance Woman Award and the 2010 Onkgopotse Tiro Excellence Awards.
